The nature of God’s love for us is astounding. In this life, we will never fully understand it. But, rest assured, we were born again so that one Day He can bring us into the fullness of His Presence to be overcome by love and know Him for all eternity.
Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.” John 3:5
Having been born again, you have all entered the kingdom of God, by His grace. We experience this by His Spirit, for now. He is God’s Presence within you, upon you, and among us. The Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity, and you might also wish to think of Him as “the heavenly realms.” He is a part of heaven, brought to us here, while we wait for the glorious appearing of Christ, and the fulfillment of God’s promise to bring us fully into His Presence. “Fully” in that sense, is to be in the Presence of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—ALMIGHTY GOD—all at once. That is heaven. That has never happened before. At every point in history, at least one Member of the Trinity has been here among us within creation and time, sent from God. At the dawn of time the Holy Spirit was here, “hovering over the waters” (Gen 1:2), about to bring the heavens and earth into existence. Jesus was also here. In those days, He was known as “the Word.” When the time was right, “the Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.” (Jn 1:14). When Jesus ascended into heaven after the cross, He sent the Holy Spirit as Lord of the Harvest to begin the final part of God’s plan of salvation—bringing in the lost.
One reason that God’s love is so astounding, is the discovery that He has bestowed upon us a degree of glory and honor. We have gone from being deceived and covered in sin, to being born again. We are now covered by His blood, set free by the waters of baptism, and filled with His Spirit. What a transformation! And that last part—being filled with His Spirit—is the glory He has bestowed upon us. Paul wrote, “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” 2 Cor 3:17
The Lord’s glory has come upon us. His Presence within you means you have truly been set free from sin and made holy in God’s sight. The Spirit’s Presence also means freedom to ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and He will open the door. Thus, God has also bestowed honor upon His church. God honors us with rights and privileges that the unbelieving world cannot have. Love urges and invites us to want more. Before we were saved, our desires were exposed by God as sinful and selfish. But being born again has given us a pure heart. We love Him because He first loved us! Your heart’s desire is fulfilled by His Spirit, for now.
